Unfortunately, Ellie wasn't able to be with us today, so you're getting a solo next gen episode from me. And hey, one of the things I'm going to go over today is how to 10X your first job as a teen. I've worked with a lot of high school students over the course of my career. And these 10X habits, this 10X mindset can really be that fuel for that first job. So I'm going to give you 12 items to think about, 12 things you can do to 10x your first job as a teenager. So first thing, this job may be temporary, but this is not just a job. This is your first opportunity to separate yourself from everyone else. If you listen to this show often, you know that that's a big tenet of 10x, doing things differently than everyone else, figuring out ways to separate yourself from everyone else. I actually have a Saturday segment dedicated just to that. So today we're going to talk about how teens can 10X that first job experience. So number one, stop thinking this is just a job. If you walk into your first job thinking it doesn't matter, this is just part-time, this is just for now, you've already lost. Your mindset is already wrong because the habits you build at your first job, they're going to follow you into your second job, your third job, your career. The average mindset, we talk a lot about be obsessed or be average and how we don't want to be average as 10x, right? In this scenario, the average mindset says, I'm just here for a paycheck. I'm just here to make a little money. But the 10x mindset, the successful mindset here would say, I'm here to dominate, earn, and grow. Number two out of the 12, show up like it matters because it does. You want to stand out instantly, show up early, not on time, early. If your shift starts at four, you're there at 345. Ready and focused. Why? Because being early says, hey, I respect this opportunity, I respect this company. And tell you something else, even with adults, most people they're late, they're dragging in, they're tired, they're not ready to roll. You be the person that's ready to roll. Focused and early. You don't need to be the smartest in the room. You don't need to have all the experience out there. You just need to care more than everyone else and have a strong work ethic. Number three, your attitude is your advantage. You walk into work with a bad attitude, you've already capped your potential. We talk a lot about potential in 10x, right? Only you know your potential. So if you walk in instead like this, hey, I'm here to win, I'm here to learn everything, I'm here to be the best employee you've got. Now you're dangerous. Now you're ready because attitude is contagious, and managers notice that fast. They remember the positive one, they remember the one who says, I got it, let me do it. I can take care of it. They remember the one who doesn't complain. That's the person that gets more hours, more trust, and more opportunities. So use that attitude to your advantage. Part four, do more than you're paid for. This is where most people mess up. They say, hey, I'm only doing what I'm paid to do. Again, that's average thinking. And in 10x, we don't want to be average thinkers. If you want average results, do average work. But if you want to stand out and get more opportunity, do more than what's expected. Do it faster, do it better. Hey, you got all finished with all your stuff. Don't stand around. Ask what else can I do? That one sentence alone separates leaders from everyone else. Five, learn like crazy. Your first job's not about money. I know you want the paycheck, you want the money to have some fun, do some stuff, that's fine. But the real value is in the skills, experience, and confidence that you're gonna gain. Learn everything you can. Learn how the business works, learn how customers think, learn how your manager makes decisions, because one day you're gonna run something bigger and you're training for that right now. Part six, communication equals power. You want to level up quickly, you want to level up fast, get to that next position, learn how to communicate. If you're late, call ahead. If you don't understand, ask. If you make a mistake, own it. Don't hide, don't avoid. Strong communicators, move up. Weak communicators, stay stuck. That's one that a lot of people are afraid to do. If you make a mistake, own it. Don't hide from it, own it. Have that accountability. And 10x, you know, we're big on accountability. And speaking of that, that brings us to seven. Mistakes. They're fine, but learn from them quick. You're gonna mess up. Everyone does. Everybody makes mistakes. The difference is winners say, I messed up, I'll fix it. Losers say that wasn't my fault and try to blame it on somebody else. So take responsibility for your mistakes, learn fast and move on. Because mistakes aren't the problem. Because like I said, everybody does it, everybody makes mistakes, but repeating them is a problem. So learn from them quickly and move on. Eight, handle pressure like a pro. At some point, no matter what job you have, things are gonna get stressful. If you're in a retail environment, customers get rude, managers might get intense, things are gonna get busy with a lot of customers around, right? This is where you grow. We talk a lot in 10x about growth happens in those uncomfortable spaces, right? So stay calm, stay focused, because if you can handle pressure at your first job, you're building a skill that most adults still don't have. So take that opportunity now to learn how to handle that pressure. Nine, respect money early. Money is a tool. And the earlier you learn to control it, the more freedom you'll have later. So let's come up with a plan on what you are doing with your money to invest it, right? Because this is the this is exciting. You're finally starting to make some money, but what are you gonna do with it? Spending it wisely and investing it for later on. 10. Build your reputation. You see, your reputation starts now, and it started yesterday and the day before, depending on when you met that person, right? Not later, not when you're older, right now. People will remember are you reliable? Did you work hard? Could they trust you? But your manager today could be your reference tomorrow or your connection or your opportunity. So as you're building your reputation, don't burn any bridges. 11. Be obsessed with growth. Most people your age, talking directly, you high schoolers out there, just trying to get through their shift. You should be trying to get better every shift. Ask yourself, what did I learn today? How can I improve tomorrow? That mindset shift right there will take you further than any job ever will. So get that shift now. Be obsessed with how you are growing, how you can improve. It will drive you forward, I promise you. And 12, think bigger than the job. It's exciting, this first job right now, but it also might feel kind of small. It's like it is what it is, just make a little extra cash, right? But your mindset shouldn't be small. Think bigger. Think leadership, think business growth, think opportunities, because the way you do this job is the way you'll do bigger things later. So let me leave you with this. Your first job is not about flipping burgers, stocking shelves, checking people out, whatever it may be, right? It's about building discipline, confidence, and work ethic. You don't need a better job right now, you need a better approach. So go in tomorrow to whatever job that is and show up early, work harder than expected, learn everything you can, and most importantly, treat this opportunity like it matters because it does.
